The Story of the Pork & Torque One of PAMAH’s largest events of the year is our annual car show, the Pork & Torque.  The Pork & Torque is a yearly event organized by our Founder and President, Shaquille Hodge. Initially, it was a way to bring car enthusiasts together to celebrate their love of cars while bringing unity to the community.  All of that changed after his wife Percilla died suddenly from Pneumococcal Meningitis in July 2018.  Since that time, the Pork & Torque has transitioned into a community fundraising event also used to raise awareness of Meningitis and educate the community on the importance of vaccinations. In This Season of Giving As PAMAH reflects on its first Annual Zoom-A-Thon and prepares for Giving Tuesday, I thought we would be remiss if we did not reflect on a challenging year. Meningitis and Meningococcal Disease are preventable, life-threatening diseases. PAMAH’s vision is to support the eradication of these diseases within the next several decades. Looking back on the loss of my daughter-in-law 2 years ago, I began to reflect on all our family has endured since that time. Cultivating Compassion

I heard something the other day that made me think about the current climate in our country. I was attending a virtual fundraising class, and the instructor posed this question: “How does one cultivate compassion?” He discussed practical ways that nonprofits could cultivate compassion, whereby achieving its goals.  I became distracted as the term itself gave me pause. Luckily for me, the course was recorded. If I did not have the opportunity to go back and revisit the course, I would have lost out on the chance to understand what the instructor was teaching that day.
